Donors Have Big Community Impact

May 09, 2009

A special thanks goes out to Valley of the Sun United Way donors, Valley businesses and organizations who helped raise $49 million in community support during the 2008 campaign. Here are a few examples of how your contribution is having an impact on our community. In 2008, Valley of the Sun United Way programs:

  • Served over 50,000 children birth to 5 years of age and distributed 22,000 School Readiness Kits to parents and care givers
  • Served over 97,000 youth, providing over 42,000 hours of academic assistance and 196,000 hours of mentoring
  • Helped over 2,300 individuals obtain employment and another 3,000 individuals increase their incomes through the support of our Helping the Working Poor Fund
  • Protected an estimated 3,000 individuals in high-risk neighborhoods through the installation of smoke alarms and pool fences
  • Helped serve 98,000 meals in community kitchens and deliver 142,000 meals to the home-bound
  • Provided over 745,000 days of shelter to nearly 15,000 men, women and children

This kind of campaign achievement - especially during these challenging economic times - is something we can all be proud of. For a more details on how your donation is making an impact in the community, please download Valley of the Sun United Way’s 2008 Community Report at vsuw.org.
