This week, March 6 – 10, is National School Breakfast week. Children in our community are hungry and struggling to focus on their education. One in four children in Arizona are living in poverty. When a child doesn’t have the proper nutrition to start off their day, it is difficult to pay attention to their lessons, causing them to fall behind their peers in school.
This is why National School Breakfast week is so important! All week long schools, students, and parents celebrate the benefits of receiving a nutritional breakfast each morning. So how can you help?
Join Geena Davis in Ensuring Children Succeed
Academy Award winning actor, Geena Davis, is joining the Women’s Leadership Council at their luncheon on Friday, April 28th to battle against hunger in schools with Valley of the Sun United Way’s Breakfast in the Classroom project.
You Are Invited to Come Along!
You can not only invest in the future of children in our community, but you will also get to hear Geena Davis tell her personal story.
Currently there are 66 schools and 47,513 students receiving Breakfast in the Classroom. Our goal by the start of next school year is to expand the program, feeding 75,000 children at 130 schools. Every person who attends brings that goal closer to becoming a reality.
