The summer slide is not as fun as it sounds, it refers to the loss of learning that children can experience in the summer months. Without keeping their brain active over the summer a student is likely to fall behind their peers in education. You can help your child keep their literacy skills up over the summer just by mixing a few minutes of reading into each day!
Open a Book Enter the Universe
To help make reading fun for children, A Universe of Stories is a summer reading program that rewards readers with new books as they complete challenges and participate in daily activities at home. Families are invited to join us at the kick-off of this program on Saturday, May 18, to get a library card, free registration into the program, and some free books! These books were made possible by a grant from Representative Lorenzo Sierra for the Avondale, Tolleson, Littleton, and Litchfield areas. There are three locations:
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Download the form below and bring the completed form to any of the libraries the day of the event.
Can’t Make it to the Event?
You can still get tips and tools to learn with your young child with a School Readiness Kit! Activities you do in your everyday life can be great learning opportunities to connect with your student.
