The Peoria Unified School District invites the media as Superintendent Dr. Denton Santarelli and dozens of Peoria Unified employees participate in the 5th annual “Pull the Bus” event 9:30 a.m. March 28 to benefit Valley of the Sun United Way. This event is paired with a Staff Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by Hickman Farms, as a way to celebrate staff and their immediate families in honor of the district’s 125th year of educating students

During Pull the Bus, teams of 10 Peoria Unified employees will test their strength, stamina and endurance as they take on 27,000 pounds of yellow steel on wheels to pull a school bus 20 feet. Employees pay $10 to participate on a team and the team with the fastest time will win the coveted “Pull the Bus” trophy. A team from the City of Peoria Police Department will also participate.
All contributions will help Valley of the Sun United Way meet the most critical needs of our community by providing resources to help end hunger and homelessness, increase financial literacy and in alignment with Peoria Unified’s mission, help children enter school ready to learn and succeed.

Pull the Bus takes place in the middle of family-friendly events also taking place on the Great Lawn outside Peoria High School’s Old Main building, 11200 N. 83rd Ave.

Beginning 8:30 a.m., staff will enjoy breakfast sponsored by Hickman Farms. The City of Peoria will provide two bounce houses at the event for the staff’s children. The Honey Badgers band, comprised of Peoria Unified staff, will also play before and after the Pull the Bus.
