Valley of the Sun United Way, together with our 90,000 individual donors, 700 business supporters, volunteers and partners, is committed to ensuring all kids succeed. A quality K-12 education is a critical component of this goal.

Today, Governor Doug Ducey signed the education funding package for Arizona K-12 schools that would settle a lawsuit and give schools a ten-year funding plan for Arizona voters to consider next May in a special election. The education package is a compromise that will allow Arizona to move forward in its discussions about how to adequately fund our education system.

We applaud the efforts of Governor Ducey, members of the state legislature and education advocacy groups to find a fiscally responsible solution that provides much-needed dollars to our schools. Valley of the Sun United Way supports this compromise and appreciates the leadership demonstrated by all those working to fund this critical need that benefits our students.

We hope this will turn discussions in our state to focus on the continued improvement of our schools because Arizona’s children and families deserve nothing less.
