Open Letter to Arizona Congressional Delegation: Pass Legislation to Defend DACA

Dear Arizona Congressional Leaders,

The White House announced its decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects approximately 28,000 Arizona young people. We urge you to take action to protect these Arizona youth by passing legislation to protect their status.

United Way exists to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities across the U.S. and around the globe. We know firsthand the harm that removal of DACA will cause to both the young people directly affected and to our communities. Studies show that 95 percent of DACA students are either in school or working. Five percent started their own businesses. The Arizona DACA workforce paid $40 million in state taxes in 2014.

DACA youth strengthen our community and our economy.

Valley of the Sun United Way fights for youth and families in our community. With our partners, we prepare ALL students for success birth to career, for the betterment of this great community where we all live, work and raise our children.

We urge Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to preserve DACA, so these Dreamers can continue to pursue the American dream and the opportunity to realize their full potential.

Most sincerely,
