Cai’Lynn’s Story: The Power of a Snack Pack

For many Arizona families, rising costs continue to stretch household budgets, making it harder to keep nutritious food on the table. During weekends, school breaks and summer vacation, when school meals may not be available, many children face an additional challenge: consistent access to healthy snacks.

Ten-year-old Cai’Lynn understands the difference that support can make.

Cai’Lynn and her mother participate in financial empowerment and early literacy programs through Valley of the Sun United Way’s grassroots partner network. While her mother works toward building greater financial stability for their family, Cai’Lynn is developing skills and confidence that will support her success in school.

As part of that support, Cai’Lynn receives a Snack Pack filled with nutritious, kid-friendly snacks assembled by volunteers from across the Valley. Each year, Valley of the Sun United Way mobilizes volunteers to create and distribute more than 50,000 Snack Packs through trusted community partners, helping ensure children have access to food when they need it most.

“My name is Cai’Lynn and I am 10 years old because today is my birthday,” she proudly shares. “What I like about my Snack Pack? I love them so much. Some kids don’t have food or a house to sleep in. I wish I could give a Snack Pack to them all. They help me focus and write tests in school. It feels good to help somebody. Thank you to the volunteers that made the Snack Pack.”

For her mother, the support extends beyond food. Through Valley of the Sun United Way’s network of community partners, she has access to resources and opportunities that help strengthen her family’s future while creating a stable foundation for her daughter to succeed.

Cai’Lynn’s story is one of thousands that demonstrate the power of community. When volunteers, donors and partners come together, small acts of impact can create lasting change.
