On a day where we celebrate our country, it is important to recognize veterans who have fought for our freedom. People like Bessie. Bessie is a veteran who struggled with homelessness until she was connected to organizations willing to fight for her right to happiness as she has done for us.
Unfortunately, there are veterans who have not received the help they deserve and don’t know where they will be sleeping tonight, or where they can turn to. That’s why Valley of the Sun United Way partners with organizations that unite against homelessness for our veterans. Vets in need of assistance can look to some of our partners for the following services.
Veteran Services Partners
- Vets Community Connection – Community connections services to find the right organization for you to contact in case you’re unsure of where to find your answers
- ARIZONA@WORK – Employment services for veterans and civilians
- CASS Vets – Helping veterans with a range of needs including clothing and hygiene needs, SSDI/SSI, VA financial benefits, medical, dental, food stamps, ID’s, mental health services, employment and housing
- Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System and Community Resource and Referral Center – A one stop shop for homeless veteran care
- U.S. Vets – Housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support for veterans and their family
- Point Man Sun Valley – Counseling and benefit assistance
- UMOM New Day Centers – Housing and supportive services
- Community Bridges – Women and children assistance, health programs, employment services, and supportive services
These are just a few of the many United Way partners helping veterans. Just as Bessie says, “There’s so many people out there that can use this education, and IT’S FREE!” Let’s help veterans get help by sharing these resources and join us by volunteering to assist veterans first hand at our next Project Connect on July 26th at The Salvation Army in Surprise.
Happy Independence Day!
