Live & Share Your Passion: Retire United

Launches New Group

By John Millikin

Wanna make a difference in the community on your own terms but don’t know how to match your interests and skills with the needs in our community?

Retire United was designed with you in mind.

Amazing experiences for you to share your time and talents

We invited a diverse array of retirees from across the Valley to share their thoughts to discuss ways we could better involve and serve them. Everyone was interested in contributing to the betterment of our community. A few themes emerged:

  • Most want short-term or project-oriented volunteer opportunities that offer flexibility for travel and other obligations.
  • Many welcome volunteer opportunities that take advantage of their skills.
  • There’s genuine concern about the state of education in Arizona and frustration with knowing how to make a difference.

Living United

As a result, United Way and a group of active volunteers created Retire United to meet retiree and the soon-to-be-retired needs by providing a variety of interesting volunteer opportunities that align with United Way’s community objectives.

Giving United

Another way to help is to get back to monthly giving like many of us have done during our working years. The easiest way to do that is to visit retireunited.org to sign up for a monthly charge to a credit card. Many retirees tell me they are not sure they can afford to give at the same level as when they were working. That’s no problem! No matter the size, every gift counts. Start small and add to it as you feel comfortable. Imagine the power of all the retirees in Phoenix giving just $5 per month! Many of us can afford to give even more.

Join Us

We invite you to become a part of the Retire United effort. While we want to continue to raise funds to make an impact in our community, there’s no obligation to give monthly.
