Interview Fair Helps Metro Tech Students Prepare for Their Futures

Last weekend, 42 volunteers gathered at Metro Tech High School for another exciting interview fair. The interview fair includes 2-3 mock interviews held by volunteers for each of the students to actively prepare them for real-life interviews. Students were encouraged to dress business professional and compose a resume to bring to the mock interviews. After the first round of interviews, the volunteers would give the students feedback on what they can improve on for their next interview. More than 200 students participated and learned valuable tips and advice on how to be the best interviewee they can be.

“Interviews can be stressful. When you’re trying to put your best foot forward, getting experience and feedback is extremely helpful. For the kids, sometimes at home there can be things that pop up that they need to be responsible for and that might change their path in life, but these kids have a great mindset for their age to handle that.” - Sara Hug, USAA Volunteer

Many of the students expressed their gratitude for the volunteers there that helped them prepare for bigger things happening in their future. Some of the students said their first interview was nerve wracking, but after the helpful feedback and advice given by the volunteers, they were able to come back the second time and completely wow the next interviewer. Schools need the extra help so it is very valuable to have volunteers showcase their skills in the subjects the schools are trying to teach the students.

We would like to thank all of our volunteers from our corporate sponsors, USAA and Bridgestone/Firestone, who came to support our community’s future workers and give them the self-confidence and reassurance they need in order to thrive in whatever they choose to do.
