To know if a charity is a non-profit, find out if they are a 501(c)(3). This means they have approval from the Internal Revenue Service to function as a tax-exempt organization. Why is that important? When you donate to a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your donation is tax deductible and you can check their rating on Charity Navigator.
Once you know what the charity’s mission is, find out what they are doing to support their cause. See how they are making an impact on their cause and how they are using their resources to transform their communities.
