Vello Tutoring
Sign up to tutor 60-minutes a week
Being a reading tutor is easier than ever with Vello virtual tutoring, there is no experience required! With screen and audio share and a full library of e-books, students are connected to volunteers for 30-minute guided reading sessions. Tutors can volunteer from anywhere they are with internet; you could even read with a student over your lunch break!

Desert Mission's food distribution program provides monthly food packages for individuals and families in crisis. Volunteers are needed to assist in sorting food and other needs for the foodbank like assisting clients in the market area.

Book Sort for Read Across America

Join us as we sort several thousand books by grade and school that will be distributed to students grade K-3rd for our Read Across America week-long event to celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss. Each child in that participates in these grades levels in one of the 22 partner schools will get their own book to help cultivate their lifelong love of reading.
Packing Day with Furnishing Dignity
Monday, February 17th

Armored Self-Storage (Map)
Together, we will transform a house into a home for a homeless family, individual, or foster youth and ease the burden of individuals who may be trying to furnish an empty apartment while working towards becoming self-sustainable.
Volunteers will meet at Armored Self-Storage to pack items for families to take to their new home.

These students are preparing to enter the workforce and need your help sharpening their interview skills. Volunteers are needed to facilitate mock interviews and provide feedback to students.

Read to Students for Read Across America Week

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Visit students at local schools and read with them during the week of his birthday to celebrate and instill a love of reading!
Operation Uplift: FAFSA Cookout

FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is a completely free way for students on their way into college to see if they are eligible for financial help through grants and/or loans to pay for their furthered education. At the FAFSA Cookout! Equity for Education event, Valley of the Sun United Way has come together with Phoenix College NAACP and Black Student Union to bring financial aid specialists on site to help students complete their application. We need volunteers to help set up the event, manage stage needs, check-in students, serving food, and tear down.
