Effort, communication, focus, determination, vision, and perseverance are characteristics that are learned through experience. Until you are faced with a situation where these qualities are necessary, you may not know which of these you have naturally and which ones you want to strengthen. That’s why Valley of the Sun United Way, the Arizona Cardinals, and Verizon met with students at the American Sports Center in Avondale to pair physical activity with character exercises.
At Character Playbook last week, Valley kids were able to discuss these skills with mentors and talk about what they truly mean, then put them into action through drills and games. Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders, and former players Anthony Clement, Dyshod Carter, Martay Jenkins, and Vice President Nicole Bidwell spoke with the students about the activities they were doing and encouraging them to use these skills in their day to day life.
United Way partners with several types of organizations across the community, including sports teams, business partners, and other non-profit organizations that provide a lot of services across Maricopa County. We want to make sure kids are ready for college and career after high school because we know it improves lives and develops the leaders of tomorrow.
The community supports the Cardinals throughout the football season, and the team supports the community right back.
