Too often, homelessness happens because of a larger situation outside of a person’s control. Chronic homelessness is a big issue in Maricopa County with 6,600 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. No organization can solve this alone.
That’s why we unite with organizations like Arizona Housing, Inc. who take on these challenges for people like Mary and Theresa. Mary and Theresa both reside at Arizona Housing Inc, a permanent supportive housing partner of Valley of the Sun United Way. Theresa is a smart and hard-working woman who lost her home, job, and kids because of bipolar schizoaffective disorder. Mary suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, and because of it was chronically homeless. These are just a few of the many people who are able to get help because of our partnership with Arizona Housing, Inc. and Community Bridges.
Arizona Housing, Inc. is a permanent supportive housing unit providing shelter and support services to those who have been experiencing homelessness. Community Brides offers mental health services for these residents. We have supported these programs so residents can receive a variety of support services.
“I graduated from a certificate course at Paradise Valley for entrepreneurial studies. That means I have the education and ability to give back to my community. Just like it was given to me. My mission is to give back. I'm going to help change the world one household at a time. If I can provide affordable housing for other people, so they won't have to experience homelessness like I did, I'm going to do it.” - Theresa
Not only do Theresa and Mary have a place to stay now, but Theresa has a full-time job and Mary is receiving the care and services she needs to succeed.
