While college football fans packed into Fan Central for all the festivities celebrating tonight’s match-up between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers, hundreds of Valley teachers attended the Phoenix Extra Yard for Teachers Summit sponsored by the College Football Playoff Foundation and Valley of the Sun United Way.
A thousand Valley teachers registered, and 800 were on a waiting list, for last Saturday’s event. Extra Yard for Teachers seeks to support teachers through the development and implementation of programs in four key focus areas: direct provision of resources, teacher recognition, professional development and leadership training, and by inspiring a college-going culture.
Attendees were given the opportunity to hear speakers on the leading edge of education across the country, share their own stories about why they teach at the iTeach Project booth, play games, network, share ideas and take home one of 1,000 handwritten “thank you” messages from Valley students.
Thank you, Teachers!
