Maybe you’ve heard the name United Way, but do you know what it means to have a United Way in your community? We want you to get to know us better by hearing from our very own Valley of the Sun United Way employees!
Who Does United Way Help?
Valley of the Sun United Way is in Phoenix to help all of Maricopa County. We fight for kids, families, and neighborhoods in the communities we love, and where we live! Our staff works at United Way because we believe in the power of uniting to help our neighbors who are in need of a helping hand. We help kids by making sure they are school ready, reading at grade level by 3rd grade, and getting resources to be career and college ready. We help families by working to end hunger, end homelessness, and increase financial stability. We help neighborhoods by working with communities to solve for the greatest needs in a given area.
What Does United Way Do?
Since 1925, Valley of the Sun United Way has unified diverse partners, donors, business supporters, nonprofits, government, and faith-based communities to build a stronger Valley for us all. We are a local, autonomous non-profit organization that works toward making our community one where families and individuals can focus on the enjoyable and important pieces of life instead of struggling to meet their basic needs. This isn’t a world that can be created by one organization alone. See the money at work for yourself through an invaluable volunteer experience where you can not only help the community hands on, but also get a deeper, first-hand understanding of what it is we do.
Where Does the Money Go?
Much of our work happens in the Phoenix urban core, however we are here to serve all of Maricopa County. Your money stays here locally, to help kids, families, and neighborhoods we see every day in the communities we are all a part of. Approximately 90 cents of every dollar goes back into the community to improve lives throughout the Valley. Check out the impact a donation can make here.
We have the goals to end hunger, end homelessness, increase financial stability of families, and ensure kids succeed in school. The power of our community is enhanced in unity, and bringing all the experts together to really dig into the struggles we face is United Way’s specialty. By coming together in one charge, we will be stronger in our fight to break the cycle of poverty.
We work together with community members, non-profits, governments, school districts, and businesses throughout Maricopa County to identify key issues, listen for opportunities, and innovate for change. We do this by interacting with community experts and having collaborative conversations to create these solutions by working together. We know we can’t do this alone. No other organization unites as many people in as many ways to break the cycle of poverty.
