Over the weekend community members came together to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. through philanthropy. Activities extended through the weekend and into Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday and included Saturday’s garden preparation, getting garden stations ready for the Grand Opening of the Guadalupe Community garden, scheduled to open Saturday, February 10, and building WeekEnd Hunger Backpacks on Monday, January 15.
Together, 100 people assembled 2,080 WeekEnd Hunger Backpacks to be distributed to 520 children at 11 different local schools each Friday to provide weekend meals for the family.
With the commitment these volunteers have shown to the children in our city by being a game-changer in this big part of the fight to end hunger, we are working to break the cycle of poverty.
We are looking for hand-raisers like you to help us deliver WeekEnd Hunger Backpacks to the local schools each Friday morning so they can distribute them to students at the end of the school day.
