Taking care of a community is an effort that takes many people. As the saying goes, “It takes a village.” People and companies throughout the greater Phoenix area come together regularly to take action to end hunger and homelessness, ensure children succeed, and increase the financial stability of families to build up Maricopa County and make it a strong community. Valley of the Sun United Way is joined by volunteers, donors, and partner companies to make big things happen, because it takes all of us.
Below are a few examples of the things we accomplished when we chose to Live United in recent months.
On September 10, hundreds of volunteers built:
This is an impact that was made in a single day for Unite: A Day of Action.
With the help of our volunteers and BETA classrooms, this year we are launching a new online tutoring program, Vello, in 7 cities and more than 50 classrooms nationally. Vello allows caring adults to volunteer from wherever they are and gives students who would benefit from one-on-one reading time the attention they need while allowing teachers more time in their classroom.
With this program, students will be able to increase their reading skills and reach the required level for their age and grade, keeping them on track to success in their education.
We now offer a variety of activities you can do any time from the comfort of your own home. View them here!
Donations from people in our community allow us to provide resources like the financial coaching 1,879 families received from our 136 coaches and spreading Breakfast in the Classroom to 51 schools, feeding 33,270 children.
Because of our donors we are able to make a difference in people’s lives. Check out our videos to see the impact for yourself. Thanks to all our partners, donors and volunteers for joining us in breaking the cycle of poverty. You can join us in strengthening our community by donating or volunteering today.
