Going to school for the first time can be scary for young kids. They’re in a new place, with a new routine, and new expectations. Sometimes a child’s first day at school can be scary for parents too! That’s why Hartford Elementary School is inviting families with kids who will be new kindergarten students next year to visit early with KinderExplorers on January 30th!
Parents and students will receive School Readiness Kits, go on a tour of the school with a fun scavenger hunt, and other activities to explore the building and get to know the faculty.
Starting off on the right foot is key to a solid foundation in a child’s education. In Scholastic’s Teacher & Principal School Report they found that 99% of teachers and 99% of principals agree that for students to be successful in learning, it is important that their family is involved. They also found that 87% of teachers and principals found ongoing, two-way communication with families is the most important activity to help with engagement.
Events like this allow parents to get to know the staff at their school and discover the best way to stay involved in their children’s learning. As a community, we can come together and live united to help children succeed and break the cycle of poverty. Valley of the Sun United Way is proud to be a part of the journey to greater community and family involvement by making connections with the help of our partnerships with local schools and families.
Volunteers will connect with the families and children to guide them through the school after an orientation period. This is a great way to get to know other local families or see the school for yourself while helping out in your community.
