Wanna make a difference in the community on your own terms but don’t know how to match your interests and skills with the needs in our community?
John (3rd from the left) is a Retire United steering committee member and busy two-time retiree.
We invited a diverse array of retirees from across the Valley to share their thoughts to discuss ways we could better involve and serve them. Everyone was interested in contributing to the betterment of our community. A few themes emerged:
As a result, United Way and a group of active volunteers created Retire United to meet retiree and the soon-to-be-retired needs by providing a variety of interesting volunteer opportunities that align with United Way’s community objectives.
Another way to help is to get back to monthly giving like many of us have done during our working years. The easiest way to do that is to visit retireunited.org to sign up for a monthly charge to a credit card. Many retirees tell me they are not sure they can afford to give at the same level as when they were working. That’s no problem! No matter the size, every gift counts. Start small and add to it as you feel comfortable. Imagine the power of all the retirees in Phoenix giving just $5 per month! Many of us can afford to give even more.
We invite you to become a part of the Retire United effort. While we want to continue to raise funds to make an impact in our community, there’s no obligation to give monthly.
