On May 17, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Avondale, more than 120 volunteers gathered with Valley of the Sun United Way to join the fight to end poverty at Project Connect. The number of people experiencing homelessness on any given night is rising, now at nearly 6,300 people. This makes events like Project Connect even more important in the fight to end homelessness.
Thanks to over 35 of our partner agencies, these volunteers were able to help nearly 230 guests make 14,388+connections to services needed to get back on their feet. Of all the guests that attended, 71% said they were able to get services they couldn’t receive in the past.
Our volunteers are active game-changers in the fight to end poverty. Thank you! We couldn’t do it without you. If you’re interested in volunteering at the next Project Connect in Mesa on Thursday, June 21 at the InterStake Center, sign up here. Miss out on this month’s Project Connect? Don’t worry! You can still join the fight with a gift to support this event and the many other ways United Way is ending poverty.
