Being a reading tutor is easier than ever with Vello virtual tutoring, there is no experience required! With screen and audio share and a full library of e-books, students are connected to volunteers for 30-minute guided reading sessions. Tutors can volunteer from anywhere they are with internet, you could even read with a student over your lunch break!

Desert Mission is a Valley of the Sun United Way partner with a food distribution program that provides monthly food packages for individuals and families in crisis. Volunteers are needed to assist individuals in the market area, helping people get items to their vehicles, and sorting, bagging and possibly assembling snack packs.

Operation Uplift: KID ZONE at Playa Margarita Car Show and Shine

United Way is partnering with community members for the 5th Annual “Playa Margarita Show and Shine”, a classic car show hosted at Playa Margarita Park in the Cash Community. We are sponsoring the Kids Zone where volunteers onsite will help make slime, play games, monitor the bounce house, as well as parking assistance for the classic cars and set up and tear down.

50-50 Raffle Sales at AZ Coyotes vs Colorado Avalanche Game

Join us at the AZ Coyotes game as a 50-50 Raffle seller! All funds raised will go directly to our WeekEnd Hunger Backpack program to provide food over the weekend to elementary students in Maricopa County so they are ready to arrive to school on Monday ready to learn. Sellers must be 18. Under 18 volunteers can attend as long as they are accompanied by an over 18 year-old seller.

Project Connect
Thursday, November 7^th

Take action and fight to end homelessness when you volunteer at Project Connect. Here, we work with community partners to provide solutions that address the root causes of homelessness and help people start the journey back to health, financial stability, and housing. Services include things like a meal, clothing, showers, job placement, housing assistance, and more. There are several options and shifts available for volunteer opportunities at these events including our greatest need, guest guides, as well as data entry, guest registration, and tear down.

Valley of the Sun United Way in partnership with the Phoenix Union High School District is hosting an Interview Fair at Alhambra High School for seniors. These students are preparing to enter the workforce and need your help sharpening their interview skills. Volunteers are needed to facilitate mock interviews and provide feedback to students.

Come to Barcelona Elementary and spend a day making a difference. Volunteers will be cleaning the campus, landscaping, painting large garden beds, decorating hallways, and creating a new garden area.

Turkey Distribution at Desert Mission

Help Desert Mission distribute turkey to families for Thanksgiving. Volunteers will be needed to assist clients thru the market to help them pick out their Thanksgiving dinner, carry out clients groceries to their vehicle, and client check in.

WeekEnd Hunger Backpack Delivery

Join United Way in delivering WeekEnd Hunger Backpacks to eleven schools that help feed over 700 children each and every weekend of the school year. WeekEnd Hunger Backpacks are provided to children at schools throughout the Valley. Each backpack contains supplemental meals and snacks to ensure a child has food over the weekend and comes back to school Monday, read to learn!
