Scramble, a breakfast and lunch joint with four locations across the Valley, helped in the fight to end hunger in the classroom by partnering with us during the grand opening of their new Tempe location. This grand opening event included a WeekEnd Hunger Backpack assembly in the middle of the comforting aroma of pancakes, omelets, and coffee. A community of volunteers from our corporate partner Symantec, Scramble’s owners Don Talbott and Clay Moizo, and Sparky the Sun Devil from Arizona State University all came together and assembled 100 snack bags to be delivered that morning to Frank Elementary School located in Guadalupe.

This grand opening event was also kicking off a “round up” of funds to be donated to VSUW from the registers of all four locations (Scottsdale, Tempe, North Phoenix, and Camelback) from February 7th-14th. However, this event thrived so much that Scramble decided to extend this promotion for an extra week, up until February 21st! From this promotion, we were able to raise an extra $700 for us to impact more kids and utilize for additional WeekEnd Hunger Backpack assemblies. Even more generously, Don Talbott and Clay Moizo were able to donate $2,500 to us, which provided enough food and supplies to fill up an extra 357 Hunger Backpacks to be delivered to even more children.

We partner with leaders, like Scramble, to build long-term solutions to poverty together. Our goal is to provide 131,040 meals per year to all schools in which 70% or more of students qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. This is just one part of our fight. Change won't happen alone. We must fight for kids to succeed, so that students are surrounded with resources they need to do well in school and life.
