If you are looking for a hands-on way to join the fight to end poverty in Maricopa County, join us at any of these volunteer activities this month!
Join in on a day of action to beautify schools, pack WeekEnd Hunger Backpacks, and care for the garden at local Marc T. Atkinson Middle School and Bret Tarver Elementary School for Operation Uplift in Maryvale! This is a condensed version of what will be a very big Operation Uplift movement later in the year. The schools are planning some exciting designs for their student restrooms! Help add some color and decorations to transform the space for the students. Volunteers must be 14 years or older to participate in this activity & accompanied by their parent/guardian.

Partner with Valley of the Sun United Way to assemble backpacks with non-perishable meals and snacks to then be distributed weekly to local Phoenix schools. The WeekEnd Hunger Backpack will provide meals and snacks to children who rely on schools for 2 out of their 3 meals Monday-Friday.
Children must be at least 5 years of age to participate in this event. Adult supervision is required for all children under 18. Each adult volunteer needs to be registered individually (and will add minors as their +1 during the registration process). Volunteers will be standing and lifting for this event, please wear close-toed, rubber soled shoes for safety

Join Valley of the Sun United Way as we work in the garden beds at Cartwright School. This garden will help connect the community with the land and harvest of the crops that will help feed local families.
Volunteers should be prepared for moderate labor so dress comfortably. Wear close-toed shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Water will be provided. Children must be 14 years or older and be accompanied by their parent/guardian. Garden site is west of 51st Avenue, south of the Palo Verde Library.
