Since Vello has come to schools across the Valley, busy and passionate professionals have had a unique opportunity to volunteer by virtually tutoring students to read with a quick 30-minute session from any computer with internet. This school year, 93% of local teachers have agreed that Vello improved reading skills of their tutored students, and 76% of kids now look forward to reading with their volunteer.
Over the past year, four new districts have partnered with Valley of the Sun United Way to begin putting Vello in their classrooms. Welcome to our new and returning districts:
So many great companies have shared the tutoring opportunity with their employees. In our new partnership with ASU, we have been working with undergrads from the Next Gen. Service Corp. (NGSC) and the Public Service Academy so Vello can count as a service event for a four-year leadership development program. Through this program, students study their chosen major and learn about real issues in the public, private and nonprofit sectors all while pursuing their own chosen social mission.
