More students across Maricopa County love reading and are growing their skills thanks to Vello. This year students, teachers, and parents have continued to see improvement and success with this online tutoring program.

Do you know where you’re sleeping tonight? On any given day in Maricopa County, 6,000 people don’t know where they’ll spend the night. Valley of the Sun United Way wants to reduce homelessness in our community by 75 percent by 2020.

The summer slide is not as fun as it sounds, it refers to the loss of learning that children can experience in the summer months. You can help your child keep their literacy skills up over the summer just by mixing a few minutes of reading into each day!

In Mesa, we hosted 333 volunteers who assisted 365 guests in obtaining a total of 2,399 service connections to help them end or avoid homelessness.

United Way’s Youth Engagement Program, presented by the Walmart Foundation, brought funding to students for projects like hydration stations, mindfulness rooms, a VR mobile learning lab, and more!

Starting May 21, qualifying families can enjoy a $2 ride, each way, to/from sixteen Food City locations. This provides a solution for families with limited access to transportation and healthy food.

At Valley of the Sun United Way we are proud to partner with programs like Community Bridges from Arizona Housing, Inc. (AHI), not just during mental health awareness month in May but year round, to provide a solution.

Kids Fest, which was held at Friendship Park in Avondale last weekend on April 6th, was an amazing opportunity for volunteers to come together and create a Book-In-A-Bag for each child. Our Book-In-A-Bag Project makes literacy fun for kids.

Last weekend, 42 volunteers gathered at Metro Tech High School for another exciting interview fair. More than 200 students participated and learned valuable tips and advice on how to be the best interviewee they can be.

As part of our fight for kids, we have partnered with Murphy schools to bring innovation back to the space. On March 27, we distributed 100 laptops to the district, donated by University of Phoenix, for students to use.
