Celebrating Dr. Seuss in Classrooms Across the Valley

One of the best known children’s book authors, Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904. Valley of the Sun United Way will celebrate his birthday all week long with Read Across America! We will spread the love of reading by sharing the many great stories he gave to the world.

Sharing Seuss

Nearly 200 volunteers will be visiting 19 schools in the greater Phoenix area. They will be reading to students, sharing their love of reading, and encouraging children to read in their free time.

Spreading a Love of Reading

Each student will get a special surprise, a book of their own to take home, thanks to our corporate partners who have provided 2,500 books! Giving these students their own book can help create a love of reading and begin to build up a home library. In Arizona, students have to be reading at grade level by 3rd grade in order to move on to 4th grade. Keeping them at grade level makes sure children continue to succeed in their education.
