Students can have a positive experience opening a book with an encouragement bookmark made by you.
Reading is one of the most fundamental skills children need to learn to be successful. These skills benefit students academically and are required for lifelong success. By reading, kids develop vocabulary, increase attention span and strengthen their analytical thinking skills.
For kids who are working to grow their literacy skills, reading can be frustrating. With some kind words and knowing that someone believes in them every time they open a book, reading can be made fun again! Reading for pleasure and interest will help a child develop reading skills and give them the opportunity to practice these skills in meaningful ways.
Gather up your card stock, markers, stickers, and any other fun crafting items. Write some words of encouragement and add some decorations on a bookmark for kids to come back to when they save their place in a book.
Encouragement Bookmarks can be mailed to Valley of the Sun United Way:
