Shower students with encouragement cards - part of Valley of the Sun United Way’s Snack Pack program.
Download PDFWeekends are tough for many students that face chronic hunger. United Way’s program provides seven easy-to-prepare weekend meals and snacks to ensure they return to school Monday ready to learn.
Create cards with positive phrases like “Keep it Up”, “You Rock”, and more to show that a caring adult knows they will succeed. Cards should be gender and religious neutral, and should not make reference to economic status. These cards are tucked away into the weekend food bags which are provided to more than 500 children every week during the school year. United Way’s Snack Pack program is available at several elementary schools in Phoenix where nearly 90% of students qualify free and reduced lunch.
