It’s more than just a piece of paper. It’s the key to the future.
Now more than ever, it’s critical that we do everything we can to empower young people to graduate from high school college or career ready. That’s why Valley of the Sun United Way created the Destination Graduation program to identify students who need support to achieve their high school diploma and matching them with mentors who are ready and willing to help.
The mentors in Destination Graduation work with middle- and high-school students to build their confidence and help them overcome any obstacles that could prevent them from graduating. The program uses an Early Warning System to identify, through both grades and behavior, students in grades 6-9 who may be at risk of dropping out.
The mentors help the students stay in school and to identify goals for their future, whether they include college or career choices. It’s one of the most rewarding ways for volunteers with Valley of the Sun United Way to directly make an impact on the lives of young people.
You can support the Destination Graduation program in several critical ways:
- GIVE: Your gift directly to United Way provides resources to train and support the volunteer mentors and provide the Early Warning System technology to identify and track students in need .
- VOLUNTEER: It’s easy to become a Destination Graduation mentor.
- ADVOCATE: Share our information and resources with your friends, family and colleagues.
