Valley of the Sun United Way’s signature event, We Are United, returned again this year for a community fundraising breakfast! We were so thrilled to be able to gather with our community at Warehouse 215. Located in the heart of the Downtown Phoenix’ Warehouse District, it plays a historic part in continuing the restoration of the area and keeping this place a part of our community. United Way continues to work closely with the communities we serve to deeply understand specific and unique needs of the residents.
This year, local nonprofits, corporate, school, community, and philanthropic partners came together to learn about the issues our community are facing and to discuss how we can move forward in Housing and Homelessness. Valley of the Sun United Way President and CEO Carla Vargas Jasa, spoke to the crowd about our commitment to Mighty Change across the Valley.
Olivia Fierro, an Emmy Award-winning anchor of Arizona’s Family 3TV and CBS 5, joined us as the morning’s emcee. We heard from Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Tempe Mayor Corey Woods and their efforts to address homelessness. We also received an update on the results of this year’s Point-in-Time Homelessness Count from Ed Zeurcher of the Maricopa Association of Governments. And Valley of the Sun United Way Board Member Latasha Causey, who is also the new and first Black female CEO of NASCAR’s Phoenix Raceway, reminded us that our contributions today can transform lives tomorrow with a powerful call to action.
We cannot create Mighty Change alone. It takes YOU – our volunteers, partners, and corporate donors – to make a difference.
Thank you to our incredible sponsors. Your support helps build a future where every child, family and individual in Maricopa County is healthy, has a safe place to live, and has every opportunity to succeed in school, in life, and in work.
