This Thursday and Friday, nearly 2,000 veterans in the Phoenix area are expected to attend the annual Maricopa County StandDown event created to assist veterans who are near or currently experiencing homelessness. Each year, hundreds of volunteers across the Valley come together with Valley of the Sun United Way, Arizona Housing Coalition, and Arizona Veterans StandDown Alliance to do something for veterans who have done so much for us by helping them get connected to the services they need to get back on their feet.
If you would like to join the fight to break the cycle of poverty for veterans but can’t volunteer at this year’s StandDown event, or are looking for a way for your kids to get involved, this at-home activity is for you! Caring people throughout our community are creating Encouragement Cards for veterans with an inspiring message to be handed out January 25 and 26 at the event.
This flyer will explain how you can easily create your own encouragement cards. By gathering a few simple craft materials and dropping off your finished cards, you can put a smile on a veteran’s face and show your support. For more information, download the flyer today!
