Valley of the Sun United Way kicked off the first of many Operation Uplift opportunities last Saturday, September 8th with the help of nearly 150 volunteers, and sponsorship from MercyCare. Operation Uplift is a community-wide movement of volunteerism, transforming Maricopa County into a community of action by take on several community projects at a time for full-circle impact.
Because these volunteers decided to Rise Up:
- 1560 more Weekend Hunger Backpacks were created to help feed kids and families who may rely on school for meals so they are prepared with food over the weekend
- Four bathrooms at Cartwright School District got a fresh new look with some repainting
- The library was cleaned and organized for the school year
- 52 community garden beds were prepared for fall planting
This is just one of many upcoming Operation Uplift events leading up to a big Operation Uplift week on April 12-20. If you missed this one, it’s not too late to join the movement!
Our next Operation Uplift event is in Guadalupe on October 27.

A special thank you to the volunteers from PetSmart, UPS, Junior League, Phoenix Police Cadets, Phoenix Fire, ASU Phi Beta Sigma, US Foods, and UnitedHealthcare for your participation!
