The time has come to Support Our Super Heroes!

In honor of Educator Appreciation Week (May 8-12) and in partnership with City of Phoenix, Read On Southwest Valley, Read On Phoenix, and many community partners, Valley of the Sun United Way is proud to participate in this year’s Support Our Super Heroes Initiative.

Walking the halls of our schools are HEROES dressed as regular humans – to the naked eye, they’re teachers, secretaries and custodians. To their students, they’re SUPERHEROES! Heroes who not only do their job to contribute to student education, but also go above and beyond to make sure our children are also growing emotionally, eating well, creating friendships, and so much more. Between the transition back to in-person, the staff shortage, and the struggle for teacher pay – let’s do our part to support those who support others every day!

From the “secret handshake” with the custodian to the nurse who knows your favorite cereal – there truly are heroes among us!

"Chalk It Up" (In-Person)
Throughout the week of May 8-12, contact your local school to “chalk it up!” With permission from the school’s front office, head out to the sidewalks and walkways in front of the school and write encouraging words and expressions of gratitude with chalk! Contact your local school.
