National Volunteer Week is celebrated each year during the third week of April. Valley of the Sun United Way wouldn’t be where we are today without the help from our amazing volunteers. We wanted to shine the spotlight on a group of volunteers you may have never heard of, our incredible Employee Campaign Managers.
Employee Campaign Managers (ECMs) work with us to create giving campaigns and promote volunteerism at their workplace. They plan, organize, and coordinate campaigns within their companies. Their position is volunteer-based and is a lot of work in addition to the jobs they do each day.
Jen Martyn has been working at SRP for 26 years! She manages their employee volunteering program. SRP works with dozens of nonprofits across the valley to address critical community needs, including Valley of the Sun United Way.
“I’m personally grateful for all that I have in my life so I think it’s important to pay it forward so others can benefit as well.” – Jen Martyn, SRP
Jen says her favorite part of being an Employee Campaign Manager is celebrating the volunteers, “It doesn’t matter if it’s one hour or 200 hours, recognizing their efforts and saying thank you is the best part!” Her advice for future ECMs? “Keep it fresh and new… and feed the volunteers at every event.” Jen says it is also important to always be flexible and to be creative when it comes to inspiring others to get involved.
“Everyone has a carrot that they’ll follow but every carrot looks different. Take the time to find the carrot!” – Jen Martyn, SRP
